Terming the firing incident on Rajshahi border "unfortunate," Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the misunderstanding will be resolved through talks between the chiefs of BGB and BSF.

He made the remarks while replying to a query of the reporters after a discussion organised by Sampriti Bangladesh at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

The home boss said there has been a complexity over the Indian fishermen’s fishing hilsa in Padma river and India's Border Security Force (BSF) came to talk on this issue.

But the firing occurred when BSF troops began heading back without a holding flag meeting and a BSF member was killed.

"This was an unexpected incident. The relationship between BGB and BSF is fantastic. We are all shocked by this sudden incident,” he said.

Tension flared up along the Charghat frontier in Rajshahi yesterday morning when the Border Guard Bangladesh tried to stop hilsa catching by some Indian fishermen inside the Bangladeshi side of the Padma.

The BGB and the BSF yesterday held a flag meeting, where both sides agreed to launch separate investigations into the incident.

BGB Rajshahi Battalion-1 Director Lt Col Ferdous Mahmud headed the Bangladeshi side while BSF commandant KS Mehta led the Indian team in the hour-long meeting held in Charghat.
