8 BNP leaders sent to jail over Faridpur AL leader murder
A Faridpur court today sent eight leaders of BNP and its associate bodies to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed over the murder of Awami League leader Yusuf Bepari.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Hamid passed the order after all the eight accused in the case appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in the district and appealed for bail around 12noon.
The accused who were not given bail include AK Kibria Shapon, 50, former general secretary of Faridpur Jubo Dal unit, Rezwan Mollah, 58, president of Kotwali BNP unit, Ranjan Chowdhury, 52, general secretary of Sadar Upazila BNP unit, Mizanur Rahman Minan, 48, forest and environmental affairs secretary of district BNP unit.
Yusuf Bepari, cultural affairs secretary of North Channel union AL unit, died at Faridpur General Hospital after he was punched following an altercation over election at a tea stall in Golgangi area of the district on December 11, 2018.
Md Soharab Bepari, brother of Yusuf Bepari, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station against 39 leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies on December 12.
All the eight accused got bail from High Court for six weeks on December 18, and the court ordered them to present before a lower court after six weeks,” Golam Rabbani Ratan said.
