44.32 new voters registered

The Election Commission (EC) said more than 44.32 lakh new voters have been registered in the electoral roll across the country last year.

With the new ones, the number of total voters has risen to 9, 98, 98,553, the EC said in a statement today.

Of the new voters, over 23.32 lakh are male and over 21 lakh are female.

The EC has also dropped names of over 7.35 lakh dead persons from the electoral roll.

The EC today revealed the final electoral roll at each upazila election offices across the country, EC's Secretary Sirazul Islam told The Daily Star.

The EC on July 25 last year launched the electoral roll updating programme across the country and it continued till the end of the year.

The draft of the updated electoral roll was revealed on January 2 and it was kept available for public at the offices of union parishads, municipalities and upazila and district election offices across the country.
