Two people have been sentenced to death for murdering 13-year-old Rakib by pumping air into his rectum – an incident that sparked repulse in country.

Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Dilruba Sultan found prime accused Omar Sharif and his associate Mintu Khan guilty of the murder today.

However, Beauty Begum, mother of the prime accused was acquitted as she was found innocent.

The trio was indicted on October 5 over the killing. Charge sheet read that Rakib's "fault" was that he left his old garage job and joined elsewhere.

Rakib's former employer Sharif and his uncle Mintu Mia stripped the boy naked, inserted a high-pressure air pump nozzle into his rectum and filled the body with air on August 3.

The teenager's intestines tore apart and lungs burst as air filled the abdomen, which killed him later.

The incident that took place soon after another brutal child killing of Samiul Alam Rajon took the country by storm in repulse and demand for justice.
