1 held for Garo woman ‘rape attempt’

A man was held early today for allegedly trying to rape an indigenous woman at her residence in Dewan Bari area of Dhaka.

The accused Shafiullah, 32, a resident of the same area, entered the victim's room and attempted to sexually assault her around 9:00pm yesterday, read a case statement.

The accused fled the scene when the 23-year-old Garo woman screamed for help, Sub-Inspector Shamsul Alam of the Dakkhin Khan Police Station told The Daily Star.

Later, she filed the case with the police station in this connection around 1:00am.

The accused was arrested within hours, the SI informed.
