Narayanganj rape: 2 remanded, BCL leader suspended
A Narayanganj court today placed two accused on a two-day remand each in connection with a case of gang-raping a ninth-grader in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Kawsar Alam passed the order when Rupganj thana police produced the accused before the court with seven days remand prayer, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
The accused are Towsib Mia, 22, of Gandhabpur area and his friend Afzal Hossain of Karnogop area in the upazila, according to the police.
Besides, a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, who was arrested on Saturday in Brahmanbaria with Phensedyl in connection with the same case, was suspended from the student body of the ruling Awami League.
Abu Sufian Sohan (24) was vice president of BCL’s Tarabo municipal unit under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.
Police said Sufian and some of his associates forcibly picked up the girl on a microbus from Gondhrobopur bus stand area of Rupganj upazila on Thursday afternoon. They took the girl to a house in Ruposhi area.
The alleged criminals kept the girl confined for two days in the house and gang-raped her multiple times, according to the police.
On Saturday, the victim’s mother filed a case with the Rupganj Police Station against five. Police arrested Towsib and Afzal but Sufian went into hiding.
Later, Police arrested Abu Sufian with 86 bottles of Phensedyl on Saturday in Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria, said Rafiqul Haque, inspector (operations) of the police station.
Another case was filed against him with Ashuganj Police Station on the charge of keeping drug under his possession in which he was sent to jail in Brahmanbaria.
When Narayanganj police came to know about the arrest, Abu Sufian was shown arrested in the rape case as well, said police sources.
Faysal Alam Sikdar and Sheikh Farid Bhuiyan, president and general secretary respectively of the Rupganj upazila unit BCL, issued a press release suspending Sufian for breaking discipline of the organisation.
