Strong currents in Padma disrupt traffic at Paturia-Daulatdia
Several hundred vehicles were at a stand-still on both sides at the Paturia- Daulatdia ferry ghat this morning.
Strong currents on the Padma river is hampering ferry services at Paturia of Manikganj and Daulatdia of Rajbari district, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting Shafiqul Islam, manager (commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority’s (BIWTA) Daulatdia office.
Enough number of ferries is in the service, the BIWTA official added.
Also, there has been a slow traffic movement on Dhaka-Aricha highway due to heavy rush of vehicles carrying holidaymakers, the correspondent said.
Meanwhile, traffic movement was normal on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Chittagong highways, our correspondents in Comilla and Tangail report.
On Dhaka-Tangail highway, there was heavy traffic rush this morning but the movement of vehicles was normal, said Khalilur Rahman Patwary, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway Police Station.
On Dhaka-Chittagong highway, normal traffic movement prevailed from the toll plaza of Meghna-Gomati Bridge upto Paduarbazar intersection, said Daudkandi Highway Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad.
