Education Minister Dipu Moni today said that the government would consider setting up Education Television channel aiming at telecasting teaching of the country’s renowned teachers to ensure quality education.

“We have discussed setting up Education Television [channel]. We will look at what we can do for ensuring quality education in future,” Dipu Moni told reporters emerging from the second-day conference of the Deputy Commissioners in Dhaka.

“If the Education TV channel is launched then the students and the teachers across the country will be benefited for sharing equal knowledge on a similar topic,” she said.

She came up with the comments while responding to a query whether the government will take any measure to send the best teachers to rural areas from urban as guest teachers.

“Setting up a specialised university for the civil servants is a matter of process. We will consider the matter if we get any proposal over the issue,” Dipu Moni said this during the conference in response to a query raised by Narsingdi DC.

The minister also asked the DCs to take measures for stopping coaching business and publishing illegal note and guidebooks.

During the second-day conference, they have also been asked to ensure the quality of construction work of their school buildings and ensure adequate playground on their school premises.

“We also asked the DCs to keep their close eyes on the sexual harassment of their students,” the minister said calling upon them to carry out awareness building campaign at school and society level against the sexual harassment.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the five-day long DC conference in Dhaka on Sunday.

This year, the DC conference -- a yearly conference of the divisional and deputy commissioners -- is being held for five days, instead of the usual three days.

The deputy commissioners, who are the chief administrative and revenue officers of the districts have prepared some 333-point proposals for this year’s conference.
