The mother of slain Diaz Irfan Chowdhury has ended her hunger strike following assurance from police that the killers of her son will meet justice.

Jobaida Sarwar, elder sister of ex-Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Diaz, confirmed our Chittagong staff correspondent of the development this evening.

Chittagong police Superintendent Nure Alam Mina, Additional Superintendents Rezaul Masud and Moshiuddoula Reza visited her in a hospital, where Diaz’s mother was admitted after falling sick, around 9:00pm last night.

“Following their assurance that the killers will not go unpunished, my mother willingly drank water from their hands,” Jobaida said, adding that her mother is very weak now.

Diaz’s mother has been waging a hunger strike since November 27 demanding the immediate arrest of her son’s killers.

Diaz, an assistant secretary of central Chhatra League, was found hanging in his residence in November last year. It took two rounds of autopsy to confirm that he was strangled.
