UP chairman in Sunamganj, one other, suspended for giving birth certificates to Rohingyas

A union parishad (UP) chairman and a union member have been suspended for faking birth certificates and giving those to Rohingyas.

The suspended are -- Md Aftab Uddin, chairman of Badaghat union of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj, and Md Monir Uddin, a member of the union.

Mohammad Emran Hossain, deputy director of the local government, confirmed the suspension today.

Two separate circulars signed by Local Government Division’s Deputy Secretary Mohammad Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury was published in this regard on February 4.

According to the circulars, both were suspended under section 34(1) of the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act 2009.

Earlier in 2017, police detained six Rohingyas from the Tahirpur upazila and seized five birth certificates issued by the Badaghat union parishad.
