Bishwajit murder: Probe IO, autopsy doctor’s ‘misconduct’, HC orders

Bangladesh High Court

The High Court today directed authorities concerned to investigate whether the investigation officer and the autopsy doctor were involved in any misconduct in making the reports over the death of Bishwajit Das.

The HC has passed the order, as Sub-Inspector of Sutrapur Police Station Zahidul Haque, who conducted inquest of Bishwajit, and Dr Maksudul, Prof Dr Masksudul Alam, who conducted an autopsy on the victim’s body, said in their reports that only two injury marks had been found in Bishwajit’s body.

But it has been found from video footage, media reports and confessional statements from the condemned prisoners and other evidence on record that there are several injuries marks were found on the victim’s body.

The inspector general of police has been asked to conduct the probe against SI Zahidul while health secretary, director general of department of health services and chairman of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council have been ordered to conduct the inquiry into the allegation against Dr Maksudul Alam.

The HC also asked Advocate Manzill Murshid, president of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, who moved around 200 public interest litigations, to oversee the inquiries and to inform this court time to time.

The HC came up with the directives while delivering its verdict on the death reference and appeals in the sensational murder case.

Bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty upheld death for two convicts while commuting the penalty of four others and acquitting two – all of whom were sentenced to death for murdering Bishwajit Das in 2012.
