Overcome with emotion, father of slain Bishwajit Das said the family was denied justice by the High Court’s verdict over the brutal killing of his son four years ago.

“I was sitting before a television the whole day without food. I was hurt hearing the verdict for murdering of my son,” Ananta Das told reporters in an impromptu reaction.

“We were satisfied with the lower court verdict, but today we have been denied justice," he added, calling up on the government to take the issue into consideration.

The High Court allowed two people to walk free and commuted the penalty of four others among those eight former ruling party activists who were given death for Bishwajit murder.

In disbelief, Bishwajit's mother Kalpana Rani Das exclaimed out saying “what type of a judgement was given today”.

“We are not happy with the judgement,” she said urging the government to take initiatives to ensure justice.

The victim's elder brother Uttam Das said: “We never thought such a verdict would come. What we saw today was totally unprecedented,” he said.
