The High Court today observed that there was a plot both from internal and external sides behind the BDR carnage to uproot Sheikh Hasina-led government.

No provocation, criminal conspiracy, dissatisfaction and grievance can justify this sort of atrocities that killed 74 persons including 57 promising army officers unless there was a plot or conspiracy behind the BDR carnage, the HC observed.

The High Court came up with the observation while delivering the verdict based on the facts and circumstantial evidences of the case filed in connection with the mutiny at the Pilkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force in 2009.

The HC also observed that the carnage was carried out by some designing quarters to create a political crisis and damage the country’s democracy.

The BDR rebels in collaboration with the others killed the army officers with a view to establish their full control and supremacy, the HC said in its verdict.

The incident is an unprecedented in the history of crime. The nation has lost some promising, distinguished and luminous army officers through the carnage and it will take a long time to fill up the loss, the court said.

The offences committed by the disgruntled BDR men are very shocking and gruesome in nature which cannot be accepted and tolerated by the civilised society. The crimes exceeded all limits of the barbarism and incivility, it observed.
