With today’s result, the AL mayoral candidates won in 182 municipalities, BNP candidates in 23, Jatiya Party aspirant in one and independent candidates in 28 municipalities.

Apart from the seven municipalities, voting was also held in some polling stations of 13 other municipalities for some councillor posts.

The Election Commission (EC) suspended voting in the municipalities on December 30 due to violence and irregularities.

Except some stray incidents today’s elections were held peacefully, reported our correspondents.

However, returning officers cancelled voting of two centres-- Nurul Alam Bhuiyan Madasa of Madhabdi Municipality and Dakshin Nazirpur Government Primary School of Chowmuhani under Noakhali for violence and irregularities.
