Rape accused killed in Satkhira gunfight

Six alleged criminals, including four drug traders, were killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Feni, Dinajpur, Mymensingh, Barisal, Jessore and Tangail districts early today.

Five police personnel were also injured during the alleged gunfights in Feni and Barisal.

In Feni, an alleged arms and drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohort and police in Pathangar area of Chhagalnaiya upazila.

Deceased Alamgir Hossain, 35, of Paschim Pathangar village, was accused of nine cases, including arms and drug trading, filed with Chhagalnaiya Police Station, our Feni correspondent reports quoting police.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Chhagalnaiya police launched a drive at a den of drug at Pathangarh village in the upazila, said MM Murshed, officer-in-charge of Chhagalnaiya Police Station.

Sensing presence of police, Alamgir and his cohorts opened fire on law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, that triggered the “gunfight”.

During the gunfight, Alamgir suffered bullet wounds, the OC said adding that he was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police officer said.

Sub-inspectors Matiur Rahman and Delwar Hossain were also injured in the “gun battle”, claimed the OC. 

The police team recovered one gun, three bullets, 1,000 pieces of Yaba and 100 bottles of Phensidyl from the den, said the OC.

In Dinajpur, Babu alias Galkata Babu, 45, an alleged drug trader of Tagra Narayanpur, was killed in a “gunfight” with police during an anti-drug raid in Biral upazila around 3:30am, reports our district correspondent quoting Hamidul Alam, superintendent of Dinajpur police.

Police recovered a firearm, sharp weapons and 193 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.

In Mymensingh, suspected drug peddler Raziul Hasan Biplob, 45, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detectives at Mashkanda Gonshar intersection in the town’s Mour (intersection) area, our local correspondent reports quoting Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of detective branch (DB) of police in Mymensingh

A team of DB police raided detectives raided the area as a group of drug peddlers gathered at Gonshar intersection for the drug trading said the DB OC.

In Barisal, an unidentified alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with a team of detectives at Battala in Aica village of Sadar upazila around 3:00am, said Nasiruddin Mallick, assistant commissioner (AC) of Detective police (DB) of Barisal Metrapolitan Police.

A regular petrol team challenged a robber gang who were preparing to commit a robbery at Aicha village. Sensing danger, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, the police official said.

At one stage, the robber gang fled the scene. Later, the law enforcers recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, added Nasiruddin Mallick.

A pipe gun, eight bullets and one choppers and one sharp weapon were recovered from the spot.

Besides, assistant sub-inspector Delwar and two constables Rafiq and Hafiz were injured during the “gunfight”.

In Jessore, Dalim, 35, an alleged drug peddler and son of late Soharab Hossain, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Raghurampur village in the district town around 4:00am, UNB adds.

Police recovered 50 pieces of Yaba and a gun from the spot.

In Tangail, a suspected mugger was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Pustokamuri Dakkhinpara Bridge on Mirzapur-Balia road in Mirzapur upazila early today, reports UNB. 

Being tipped-off that a group of muggers was committing mugging after halting buses on the road, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive in the area around 2:00am, said AKM Mizanul Haq, officer-in-charge of Mirzapur Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, police said.

Emon, 22, was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.

Later, he was taken to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Emon was wanted in separate cases filed with different police stations, said the OC.
