2 ‘Yaba traders’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’
Two alleged Yaba traders were killed in what law enforcers claimed to be a gunfight in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today, hours after they were arrested.
The deceased were identified as Md Amin and Helal Uddin Sumon of Shilkhali area in the upazila, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.
The two, both accused in a number of drug related cases filed with different police station, were held from Shilakhali area around 8:00pm yesterday. Based on the information given by the duo, police conducted a drive at the foot of Shapmara hill during the wee hours of today, the OC said.
The criminals opened fire at the police sensing their presence prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, ensuing a “gunfight”, the OC claimed.
Amin and Sumon were caught in the line of fire as their cohorts managed to escape the place. They were rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared them dead, OC Pradip Kumar Das said.
Police recovered 5,000 Yaba pills, two firearms and seven bullets from the spot.
