13 Ctg teachers land in jail for ‘defaming’ Bangabandhu

A Chittagong court today sent thirteen high school teachers to jail in a sedition case filed for reportedly defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Rejecting their bail prayers, Senior Judicial Magistrate M Sajjad Hossain of Banshkhali court passed the order after the teachers appeared before the court seeking bail, our Chittagong staff correspondent reports quoting Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station.

On July 19 in 2016, examination committee of Banshkhali Bangabandhu High School prepared a question paper for class IX where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was allegedly compared with a local Union Parishad chairman, the OC said.

A sedition case was lodged against 13 teachers including assistant teacher Dukul Barua as the prime accused with Banshkhali Police Station in this connection on April 12 last year.

The rest of the teachers were the members of the exam committee assigned with in formulating the question papers, police said.
