Coronavirus outbreak: Workers left jobless block Tangail-Mymensingh highway for food

A number of people, who have lost their jobs during coronavirus outbreak in the country, today staged a demonstration blocking Tangail-Mymensingh highway in Ghatail upazilia of Tangail demanding food for their survival.

Around 300 people, including women and children of different villages in the area, took to the highway in Porabari area and staged the demonstration there for one-and-half hours from 10:00am to meet their demand, reports our Tangail correspondent.

On information, Ghatail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anjan Kumar Sarkar and Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahidul Islam Lebu went to the spot and assured the protestors that they would be given relief materials immediately.

Based on the assurance, the protestors left.

Later, talking to the correspondent, UNO Anjan Kumar said he already provided over 200 packages of relief materials among the demonstrators.
