2 construction workers die falling off building at DU

Two construction workers died reportedly after falling off a nine-storey building at the Jagannath Hall on Dhaka University campus this afternoon.

The deceased are identified as Swapan, 24, of Pabna and Maidul Islam, 26, of Rangpur, our DU correspondent reports quoting Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

The duo was working on a hanging platform of the nine-storey Santosh Chandra Bhattacharya Bhaban of Jagannath Hall, where construction work for extension of the building is ongoing, said Shanto Das, a co-worker of the victims.

At one stage, they fell from the platform as it tilted around 5:00pm, he said.

Swapan died on the spot while Maidul was declared dead after he was taken to DMCH, SI Bachchu Mia said.

The bodies have been kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy, he added.
