24 kg gold seized at Dhaka airport
Customs Intelligence seized 24 gold bars weighing 24 kilograms from an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
Shahidul Islam, director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) said acting on a tip off, a team of CIID conducted a drive at flight BG-085 of the national flag carrier at the airport around 7:45pm.
After searching the plane, the team recovered 24 gold bars, each weighing one kg, from the aircraft, he said.
The gold bars wrapped up with black scotch tape were recovered from inside the four seats in the aircraft,” the customs official said.
The market price of the gold is estimated around Tk 17 crore, Shahidul Islam added
