Lucky girl survives after falling off 6-storey building

In spite of falling off the roof-top of a six-storey building at Dhaka’s Uttara, a female house help fortunately managed to survive.

It was just the day after Eid. Lamia Akhter, 13, was happy as her father Md Ripon was on the way from Dakkhin Khan to take her home for the day.

She went to the roof-top in the morning to hang some clothes in the sun to dry up when she noticed some “small” cars on the street below.

The curious girl stooped over the railing to inspect more clearly “why the cars were so small?” but her already wet and slippery hands gave way and she fell off the roof, she told The Daily Star.

But luckily, she fell on the accumulated mass of electric wires hanging just over the road that acted as a cushion and saved her life.

Although she caught fire immediately after falling on the electric wires, her run of luck seemed to get going as the fire diffused when she fell on the road below with enough thud needed to extinguish the fire. She, however, got one of her legs fractured.

“Although she caught fire due to falling on the electric wires, this is definitely a blessing as she survived exactly because of it,” Lamia’s father said.

Lamia is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with six percent burn, an on-duty doctor of the hospital told The Daily Star.
