Fugitive ‘killer’ cop arrested in old Dhaka

The former policeman, who fled from a Dhaka court yesterday while being sent to jail over the death of a detainee in 2012, was arrested in old part of Dhaka city today.

Officer -in-Charge Abul Hasan of Kotwali Police Station told The Daily Star that ex-Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim Patwari was arrested from Roy Shaheb Bazar area around 2:00pm.

Patowary, a suspended SI of Pallabi Police Station, sneaked away from the court after Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of Special Judge’s Court-5 rejected his bail petition in the case.

Earlier, Patowary and two other accused – SI Mohammad Nuruzzaman of Rupnagar Police Station and their informer Babu alias Raton – surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

Rejecting their bail petitions, the court ordered to send them to jail. The court also framed charges against them and fixed January 19, 2016 for starting the trial.
