Banglamotor accident: Victim’s family refuses negotiation proposal

Family members of the female BIWTC official, who lost her left leg due to recklessly driven bus on Tuesday, refused a negotiation proposal and sued three persons including bus owner and driver in this connection.

Radhe Shyam Chowdhury, husband of victim Krishna Roy Chowdhury, filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station today.

“My wife has become crippled and is struggling for life due to the negligence of the bus owner and reckless driving by the driver and his assistant,” Radhe mentioned in the case statement.

He named the driver as Morshed in the statement but could not mention names of the owner and the bus helper as he did not get those immediately, he said.

Krishna, 55, assistant manager (accounts) at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, lost her leg after the recklessly-driven bus of Trust Transport Service ran on a pavement and hit her in the city’s Banglamotor area on Tuesday.

She was on her way to a private bank in Banglamotor from her nearby office.

Doctors at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) amputated her left leg below the knee. 

Bipul Chandra Biswas, secretary (current charge), BIWTC, said the representative of the bus owners arrived at the office and gave a proposal of Tk 2 lakh as compensation.

“We have not agreed to their proposal as we do not think it is acceptable. We want to face it legally to ensure exemplary punishment of those responsible,” he told The Daily Star.

Radhe said he did not accept the proposal and filed the case for getting justice.

“The condition of my wife is stable,” he said.  

‘The head injuries of my wife were found to be uncritical in a CT Scan report at Neuroscience Hospital. She was later returned to NITOR,” he said.
