Apan Jewellers’ owners get bail, 2 free to walk
Apan Jewellers’ owners Dildar Ahmed, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed today secured High Court bail in three money laundering cases, paving way for release of the latter two.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim granted them bail after hearing three separate petitions filed by the trio seeking bail in the cases.
Now, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed can get release from jail. However, Dilder has two bail petitions in two other in waiting for hearing, barring him to walk out of prison.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on August 12 sued three owners of ApanJewellers on the charge of money laundering in importing around 15 maunds of gold.
Three separate cases were lodged with Dhanmondi, Ramna and Uttara police stations while two additional lawsuits were lodged with Gulshan Police Station in this connection.
According to the statements of the cases, owners of the much-talked-about ApanJewellers imported around 15 mounds of gold and diamonds by “dodging tax”.
ApanJewellers owners Dildar Ahmed Selim, father of the double-rape case accused ShafatAhamed, has been made accused in three cases while Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed made accused of three separate cases following the directives of National Board of Revenue.
The three were sent to jail on October 28 after they surrendered to the trial court.
