50 BRAC University students selected for Millennium Fellowship
50 students from BRAC University have been selected for the 2025 Millennium Fellowship, a global leadership programme that supports undergraduates working on community projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) principles.
This marks the largest cohort from BRAC University since the fellowship was first introduced at the institution in 2021, when 14 students participated. The number has grown steadily over the years, with 22 fellows in 2022 and 26 in 2024.
Jointly run by the UNAI and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), the Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long initiative designed to help students design, implement, and evaluate projects aimed at creating measurable social change.
Globally, student leaders from over 7,500 campuses across more than 160 countries applied to join the Class of 2025. Around four percent of campuses—over 290 institutions across 47 countries—were selected to host over 4,000 Millennium Fellows this year.
To mark this year's selection, BRAC University's Social Impact Lab under the School of General Education organised a programme on October 15 at the university's Merul Badda campus. The lab will mentor and guide the fellows, helping them refine their initiatives, explore collaborations, and develop sustainable community models.
The 2025 fellows from BRAC University will be leading projects addressing issues such as climate resilience, digital literacy, menstrual and reproductive health, breast cancer awareness, equitable education, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, creative expression, and civic participation.
The fellows' projects directly contribute to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
The fellowship also embodies SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by nurturing ethical leadership, civic engagement, and global collaboration in advancing sustainable development.
