No VAT on foreign doctors’ fees for treating July uprising protesters: NBR

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has exempted value-added tax (VAT) on fees and consultancy charges for foreign medical specialists treating individuals injured in the July uprising that led to the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina government.
According to a notification issued today, the exemption applies to fees, consultancy charges, and hotel accommodation (including hospitality expenses) for doctors invited by the Directorate General of Health Services or relevant hospital authorities to provide treatment.
The decision aligns with the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, which already grants VAT waivers for public and private healthcare services, the notification stated.
