New Tk 500 banknote to hit market Thursday

The Bangladesh Bank will introduce a newly designed Tk 500 banknote on Thursday.

The note will first be issued from the BB's headquarters in Motijheel before being distributed through other branches across the country, the central bank said in a press release today.

The new note features the central Shaheed Minar on the left and a blooming water lily (Shapla) in the centre background, while the reverse side highlights the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the release said.

To enhance security, the note includes 10 advanced security features, it added.

The central bank has confirmed that all existing banknotes and coins will remain valid alongside the new one.

For collectors, non-exchangeable specimen versions of the Tk 500 banknote can be purchased at the Currency Museum in Mirpur.

This release follows the earlier issuance of newly designed Tk 1,000, Tk 100, Tk 50, and Tk 20 banknotes under the same architectural series.
