New pay scale for govt employees from July 1
The government will implement the new pay scale for officers and employees starting July 1.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to announce the measure while presenting the national budget in parliament today. The rollout, however, will be phased.
The new pay scale for public employees will come after 11 years.
The new scale may take three fiscal years to be fully implemented, with 50 percent of the revised basic salary expected to take effect in the upcoming fiscal year. To support this, the government is expected to allocate Tk 141,434 crore for public services, which is 96 percent higher than Tk 72,024 crore in the original budget for the current fiscal year.
The amount was later revised to Tk 86,862 crore.
The allocation thus increases by about Tk 55,000 crore compared to the revised figure.
However, not all of this will go towards higher salaries and allowances for government employees.
The allocation also covers new recruitments, increased pay for MPO-listed teachers and staff, and additional benefits for pensioners.
