'Detect fictitious loans given to drivers, housemaids in political consideration'
A top leader of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) today said some loans were disbursed in favour drivers and housemaids in political consideration.
The government should detect those loans which were disbursed without complying with proper documentation, said Mohammad Ali Khokon, president of BTMA.
But, the government could hardly realise those loans and at the end of the day creates pressure on the businessmen for such loans taken with pseudonyms, he said.
Many became billionaires overnight doing business in the power sector, Khokon said.
No monetary policy will work if everything is given to those looters, the BTMA chief said at a discussion on monetary policy and its implication jointly organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) at the ICAB office in Dhaka.
