Govt to consider publishing loan defaulters' names

Finance Minister AMA Muhith today in parliament said the government will consider in future to publish the names, addresses and identities of the bank loan defaulters periodically.

He said this while responding to a supplementary question from independent lawmaker Rustam Ali Farazi.

Saying that the loan defaulters have been causing massive loss to the nation, he said, "They have gobbled up the money that could be invested in various sectors."

Pointing to loan defaulters, Muhith said that earlier on several occasions he had given list of the loan defaulters in parliament.

"For this the members of the parliament helped me, they wanted to see the list, I gave the lists several times," he said.

But he mentioned that he never thought before to publish the names and address of the loan defaulters in the newspapers.

"But surely that can be done, I think this proposal might be considered for future," he said, adding, "Their names can be published periodically."
