Boy dies after being hit by cricket stump in Ctg
A teenage boy was killed after being hit by a cricket stump at Chittagong Collegiate School field in the city yesterday afternoon.
The victim, Md Foysal, 15, son of Shah Jahan of Comilla, was living in Morichchapara area of the city. He used to sell betel leaf.
Foysal, his two brothers and other local boys went to play cricket at the Collegiate School field, said Morjina Akter, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station. At one stage, a stump was thrown to Foysal by another boy, leaving him critically injured, the OC said. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he died around 6:00pm.
Police is looking into the incident whether the stump was thrown "intentionally" or "inadvertently", the OC added.
Brother of the victim, Md Maksud, who was present at the field said playmate Arafat had a quarrel with another playmate Sohan. Arafat, out of anger, threw the stump. However, he said the boy did not target his brother. Police detained three including Arafat for questioning.
