Rape Attempt on Student: Another madrasa principal arrested

Police yesterday arrested another madrasa principal on charge of attempting to rape a second-grader in Netrakona’s Kendua upazila, just a day after the arrest of a Narayanganj madrasa principal over raping about a dozen female students.

Maulana Abul Khayer Belali, 33, is the principal of a Atharbari Ma Hawa Qawmi Madrasa in Kendua municipality, police said, adding that he came to the area from Sunamganj a few months ago and established the madrasa.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station Mohammad Rasheduzzaman said the accused called the student to her room around 10:00am and attempted to rape her.

Hearing screams, other students rushed to the spot and rescued the victim, the OC said.

Later, locals caught him and handed him over to police, OC Rashed said.

The girl’s father lodged a case with the police station, the OC also said.

Meanwhile, mother of a minor filed a case on Thursday accusing a man of raping her daughter in the district’s Madan upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Madan Police Station Romizul Haque said Anju Mia raped the girl four months ago and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

The girl recently fell sick and explained everything to her aunt, the OC said, adding that she was taken to Netrakona General Hospital where doctors found her pregnant.

We are trying to arrest the perpetrator, the OC added.

NARAYANGANJ MADRASA PRINCIPAL SUED

Two cases were filed yesterday against Al-Amin, principal of Baitul Huda Cadet Madrasa, for his alleged involvement in raping around a dozen female students since 2018.

A guardian of one of the victims filed a case against Al-Amin under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act while Rab sued him under the Digital Security Act.

Alep Uddin, senior assistant director of Rab-11, said investigated the allegation and found that the principal raped 10 to 12 girls since 2018 and tried to violate many others.

They also found pornographies in his cellphone and his personal computer.

Rab will produce Al-Amin before court today with a 10-day remand plea, he added.

When his wife was not at home or the madrasa was closed, he used to intimidate the girls with threats of beating, giving poor marks in exams, and outright failing them to make them go to his house, the Rab official said.

During primary interrogation, he confessed that he had raped and sexually harassed girls, the official added.

MINOR RAPED AT DHANMONDI HOSPITAL

Police on Thursday arrested a canteen staffer of a private hospital in the capital on charge of raping a minor girl.

Mosharof Hossain, sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station, said the girl went to the hospital with her mother, who is also a staffer of the hospital.

As the girl was loitering around the canteen around 3:30pm, the 17-year-old boy lured her with his mobile phone and took her to the power generator room where he raped the girl, the SI said.

The girl was taken to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College where she is undergoing treatment, police said.

Later, victim’s mother filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station, the SI added.
