Infant dies at Ctg hospital
A new born died hours after birth at a hospital in Hathazari upazila yesterday and the family alleged negligence on part of the hospital.
The new-born baby died seven hours after birth early Saturday at Alif Hospital in Hathazari. The family filed a written complaint with Hathazari police in this regard.
Mohammed Shahidul Alam, assistant professor of Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries at Chittagong University, told The Daily Star that he filed the complaint against two doctors and one director of the hospital following the death of his child.
“My wife was admitted to the hospital on Friday. When her birth pain started at 10:00pm, there were no doctors at the hospital. The delivery was made under the supervision of nurses,” he alleged.
He also alleged that neglect by the hospital authorities in taking care of his newborn child ultimately led to its death.
Md Nazim, director of the hospital, told The Daily Star that the baby was born dead. There was no neglect behind its death, he claimed.
“However, we will investigate the matter as the family has raised allegations,” he added.
Belal Uddin Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Hathazari police, said they had received the complaint and would look into the matter.
