Customs officials last night seized 220 gold bars weighing around 25.5kg from two planes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
The bars are worth around Tk 12.5 crore, Moinul Khan, director general of the Customs Intelligence, told The Daily Star.
No one was arrested.
The DG said acting on a tip-off, a customs intelligence team recovered around 23.2kg of gold bars from two seats of a Malaysian Airlines flight that landed at the airport around 9:30pm.
In another incident, gold bars weighing around 2.3kg were found at a toilet of a Regent Airways flight about an hour later. The flight came from Bangkok and was heading for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
