Preserving A Heritage
Bibi Russell, one of the most prominent fashion designers of Bangladesh, has been invited by the Rajasthan Khadi and Gram Udyog Board as a state guest of the Government of Rajasthan to support the artisans and crafts people of Rajasthan. During her stay, she will help them take steps to preserve their heritage, innovate and sustain a decent livelihood.
Bibi Russell's visit is part of a project of the Government of Rajasthan to create a modern and internationally appealing interpretation of heritage Rajasthani textiles, and will give a boost to the community of weavers, dyers, printers and craftsmen of Rajasthan.
On April 26, the Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board is organising a show in Jaipur, Rajasthan along with two other designers at which Bibi Russell's works will also be showcased. Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan will grace the occasion as the chief guest of the event, says a press release.
Bibi Russell has given, through her endeavours as a fashion designer, Bangladeshi weavers and artisans an opportunity to utilise their skills and talents to achieve economic independence and build a prosperous future. Her work has been internationally recognised and she has received several prestigious awards from around the world.
