Meet folk rock fusion band ‘Lalon’

Band Lalon is famous for its fusion music with a touch of ethnicity and a dash western. The band began its journey in Khulna nine years ago.

Its first album ‘Biprotip’ incorporated traditional songs of Lalon Shah with modern instruments. But it wasn’t until its second album ‘Khepa’ hit the market that the band gained immense popularity.

Lalon Shah, the Bengali baul saint, mystic, songwriter, social reformer and thinker, is considered the icon of religious tolerance in this part of the world.

The band received harsh criticism for fusing western instruments – guitars and drums – with Lalon Shah’s songs.

Lalon’s upcoming albums – ‘Sada Kalo’ and ‘A Tribute to Fakir Lalon Shah’ – will be released before Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year.
