Noted filmmaker Shahidul Islam Khokon died at a hospital in Dhaka this morning due to a prolonged illness.

Khokon breathed his last around 8:15am, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting family members.

The director was suffering from a motor neuron disease for the last several years.

Khokon was the director of many commercially successful films like Ghatok, Palabi Kothay, Lal Shobuj, Bhondo, Madam Phuli, Birpurush, Loraku and Biplob.
