Employees of all public, private and autonomous offices have to stay at their workplace during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation and optional leave days.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular in this regard last night.

As the number of Covid-19 cases are increasing every day, employees and staffers of all public, private and autonomous offices have to stay at their workplaces during the Eid vacation and optional leave days in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, the circular read.

Earlier yesterday, the government notified officers and employees that the three-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha will not be extended and they should not go on vacations due to the coronavirus situation, BSS reported.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair yesterday.

"The three-day holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha would not be extended further and the government officers and employees have been directed not to leave their respective workstations or headquarters," Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a press briefing after the meeting when his attention was drawn to government's instructions during Eid holidays.

The premier joined the meeting from her official residence Gono Bhaban via videoconferencing, while ministers and secretaries attended it from the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The Eid-ul-Azha holiday will be from July 31 to August 2 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), if Eid is observed on August 1.

If Eid is observed on July 31 (Friday) then the Eid holiday will be from July 30 to August 1 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).
