Dhaka College, Ideal College students sign 'peace agreement'
Students of Dhaka College and Ideal College, long known for clashes, today reached an agreement to end violence and "foster brotherhood".
Frequent confrontations among students of Dhaka College, Ideal College, and Dhaka City College -- particularly in the Science Lab area -- have often caused traffic disruptions and public sufferings.
To address the issue, New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mahfuzul Haque organised a "Peace Agreement Ceremony" between Dhaka College and Ideal College students.
Students of Dhaka City College, however, did not participate, saying they have no conflicts with other colleges, the OC told The Daily Star.
The event, held at Dhaka College Auditorium, was attended by over 200 students, along with principals and teachers from both institutions. At the start of the ceremony, Dhaka College students welcomed students from Ideal College with flowers.
Students then embraced each other, exchanged sweets, and vowed to maintain peace, creating a festive atmosphere on campus.
RS Shuvo Dhali, a student of Ideal College, said, "We are now brothers. We will not engage in fights anymore. We will focus on our studies and resolve any issue through discussion."
Dhaka College students echoed the sentiment, emphasising their commitment to maintaining harmony.
OC Mahfuzul said, "I am very happy today. Dhaka College and Ideal College students are brothers. I took this initiative to stop the fighting and encourage friendship. I hope this bond lasts, and future issues will be resolved through discussion."
