6 DU students injured in quake panic
Six Dhaka University students were injured after panic erupted across campus following a fresh 3.7-magnitude earthquake today.
Three students from Shamsun Nahar Hall, one from Kuwait Maitree Hall, one from Begum Ruqayyah Hall, and one from Masterda Surja Sen Hall were hurt, according to reports. Five of the injured are female students.
At Shamsunnahar Hall, Israt Jahan Sumona, literary affairs secretary of the hall union, suffered a serious leg injury while rushing down the stairs. Her leg is suspected of being fractured. She and two other injured students were being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the hall resident Anika Tasnim told reporters.
A student from Kuwait Maitree Hall was also hurt while hurrying downstairs, confirmed resident Shahida Akter Prova.
At Begum Ruqayyah Hall, residential student Sumaiya Anjum Sharmin said one student fainted out of panic and suffered minor injuries. She was also being taken to DMCH.
Meanwhile, Masterda Surja Sen Hall resident Mamunur Rashid sustained injuries during a scuffle while trying to evacuate.
