Mamata to join Hasina-Modi meeting

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will join a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during Hasina's state visit to the neighbouring country.

Discussions on different issues including the Teesta water sharing and Ganges Barrage project are scheduled to be held in the meeting, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Indian government officials.

The meeting will take place at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday, April 8. Mamata is expected to fly for New Delhi on April 7 at an invitation of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Bangla daily reports.

Mamata will also join a dinner table of the Indian president, a banquet that has been thrown in the honour of Sheikh Hasina on April 8, reports our Kolkata correspondent quoting Trinamool Congress sources.

Prior to the dinner, the West Bengal chief minister may call on the Bangladesh premier at the Rastrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), sources said.

Earlier yesterday, Indian president telephoned Mamata inviting her to attend the dinner where he also wants a face-to-face discussion between PM Hasina and Mamata in his presence.

Highly placed sources also said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hasina and Mamata will be jointly inaugurating the Kolkata-Khulna passenger train service on April 8 in New Delhi.

The Bangladeshi premier is scheduled to visit India for a state visit from April 7.

This will be Hasina's first official visit after the Modi government took office in May, 2014.
