Neuralink to ramp up brain implant production in 2026
Elon Musk's brain-computer interface company Neuralink plans to begin "high-volume production" of its brain implants and transition to a fully automated surgical procedure in 2026, as per a recent post by Musk on X.
The implant is designed to assist individuals with conditions like spinal cord injury. As per a report by Reuters on the matter, the company's first patient has used the device to control a computer cursor, play video games, browse the internet, and post on social media.
Neuralink began human trials in 2024 after addressing safety concerns raised by the US Food and Drug Administration, which had initially rejected its application in 2022. By September 2025, the company stated that 12 people with severe paralysis worldwide had received the implants and were using them to control digital and physical devices, adds the Reuters report. The company also secured $650 million in a funding round this past June.
