Microsoft Photos will look more like Google Photos from now

Microsoft is rolling out a new update to its Photos app on Windows 11 that brings AI-driven auto-categorisation, a feature long associated with Google Photos, the app for storing photos.

According to a recent Windows Insider Blog, the update, available on Copilot+ PCs across all Insider channels, uses AI to sort images into four categories: screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes.

Unlike traditional folder systems, the model can recognise documents regardless of the language. For instance, a Hungarian passport will still be classified as a passport even if the text is not in English, as per Microsoft.

While the categories are limited to four at launch, users will be able to search and filter instantly through the library, edit categories manually, and offer feedback to refine accuracy. Microsoft said the feature is intended to save time and make the app a more practical tool for everyday use.

The release also introduces wider availability of "Super Resolution," an enhancement tool designed to sharpen photos. This feature now works across devices powered by Snapdragon, AMD and Intel processors. Users will be prompted to download an additional model package before activating it.

The update, which requires app version 2025.11090.25001.0 or higher from the Microsoft Store, is rolling out gradually and may take time to reach all devices.
