A group of cybercriminals claim to have stolen nearly one billion records from companies using Salesforce software, though Salesforce maintains its own systems were not breached, states a recent report by Reuters.

The hacking group named 'Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters' told Reuters they obtained personal information by targeting Salesforce customers through social engineering attacks.

The group stated they used 'vishing' techniques, impersonating employees to gain access through company IT help desks rather than hacking Salesforce directly. They also claimed responsibility for recent cyberattacks on British retailers Marks & Spencer, Co-op, and Jaguar Land Rover.

Salesforce responded that there is "no indication that the Salesforce platform has been compromised." Reuters could not independently verify the hackers' claims.

The group has published a dark website listing approximately 40 companies they allege were hacked, though it remains unclear if all are Salesforce clients.
