Google announces dates for I/O 2026 developer conference
Alphabet Inc., the parent company behind Google, said that its annual Google I/O developer conference will take place on May 19 and 20 at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.
The dates were announced by chief executive Sundar Pichai in a post on X on February 18. The event will also be streamed online via the conference website, continuing the hybrid format adopted in recent years.
Google I/O is typically used to showcase updates to the company’s software platforms and artificial intelligence products. This year, the company is expected to outline developments to its Gemini AI models and other generative AI tools, alongside potential announcements related to hardware.
In December, Google said it planned to launch its first artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses in 2026. The sector has attracted growing interest following the commercial performance of products such as the Ray-Ban smart glasses developed by Meta Platforms.
Ray-Ban manufacturer EssilorLuxottica said sales of Meta’s AI glasses more than tripled in 2025, surpassing 7 million units sold, according to a recent report by CNBC.
