As the Eid-ul-Azha box office fills with star-driven spectacles and commercial entertainers, one of the season’s most intriguing releases is arriving from an entirely different space. After winning over audiences at two festivals — DIFF and Amar Bhashar Cholochitro — and earning multiple awards, “The University of Chankharpul”, directed by young filmmaker Akash Haque, has now joined the Eid release race.

A new Bangladeshi film exploring the realities of university hall culture and student politics is gearing up for release this Eid-ul-Azha. Director Akash Haque recently unveiled the trailer for “The University of Chankharpul” and announced plans to bring the film to theatres during the festive season.

Directed by Akash Haque, The University of Chankharpul announces itself as a comedy, but its laughter is edged with recognition.

At the Amar Bhashar Chalachitra festival (DUFS), organised by the Dhaka University Film Society, the Hiralal Sen Award 1432 was presented to filmmaker Monirul Haque Akash’s film “The University of Chankharpul.” The film also won the Best Screenplay award. The festival concluded on Sunday evening with the award ceremony.
