Royal Challengers Bengaluru's pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj produced a scintillating new-ball burst in Saturday's Indian Premier League (IPL) victory against Gujarat Titans to ease concerns over his form ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.
Siraj was superb with his line and length in a nine over spell after South Africa had elected to bat first.
"To be honest I never thought that I would play a World Cup because I have come from so low (background)," Hyderabad native Siraj, son of an auto-rickshaw driver, told reporters.
Mohammed Siraj’s rampage that dismissed Sri Lanka for 50 in Colombo has helped him top the charts of the Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings. The Asia Cup-winning spell of 6-21 has returned him to the No.1 position, a place he last occupied in March 2023, before being displaced by Josh Hazlewood.
