As farmers across the country worked in the fields on Saturday to bring in the season’s largest rice harvest, 10 of them were killed by lightning in seven districts.

In recent years, lightning has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most fatal climate hazards, although policy responses have yet to evolve proportionately.

Bangladesh has been witnessing a rise in casualties from lightning strikes mainly due to drastic shifts in weather patterns.
