Less than 48 hours before the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) board of directors’ election, several Dhaka-based clubs demanded the cancellation of the October 6 polls, terming them “controversial” and warning of a possible boycott of domestic leagues.
Several club councillors voiced frustration on Tuesday after a High Court bench issued a stay order on former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed’s writ petition, which challenged the inclusion of 15 disputed clubs in the October 6 BCB board of directors’ election. Some councillors even threatened to withdraw from the polls.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official yesterday said that the board has decided to form an independent inquiry body to support the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) investigations regarding the alleged match and spot-fixing issues in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
