Freedom

#Arts / Rickshaw art turn Dhaka University walls into an art gallery

On 13 August 2024, the Bangladesh Rickshaw Art Society transformed the walls near Sheikh Russel Tower at the Dhaka University campus into a vibrant canvas of rickshaw art.

#Perspective / The many faces of freedom

Freedom is something chased by many yet fully grasped by surprisingly few. In Bangladesh, where the echoes of the Liberation War still pulsate strongly in the hearts of its people, freedom takes on various forms and meanings depending on whom you ask.

POETRY / The song of freedom

the bullet hole/ in my brother's chest/ unfolds like a pandora's box

POETRY / Rebel is a letter in red

Where voices unite, a chorus strong, / Demanding justice, righting wrong

REFLECTIONS / Byting wisely: The varying narratives of nationalism and independence

So in the spirit of Independence, I urge my reader to exercise independence of consumption—to question what you are buying, what you are reading, what you are watching, and which of these you are really given the freedom to choose.

POETRY / Losing An Arm

It said, my body was no longer needed. / “This is the age of freedom. Let me go, and explore.”

Freedom without justice

If we believe that things will fall into place by just letting them take their course, we will end up with multiple catastrophes.

#Perspective / The many faces of freedom

Most people called it midlife crisis, I called it the freedom to do anything I wanted to. Freedom to do anything that made sense and yet was not possible earlier, all because I could not master enough courage to pursue what my heart bled for — a little bit of insanity.

An invaluable study of Bangladesh's political history

"In Fool’s Paradise" is aptly named as it gives us a glimpse of post-independence Bangladesh, a young nation still struggling to find its identity amidst post-war blows.

Arms for freedom

It was truly a fight between David and Goliath in 1971. The Mukti Bahini fighters fought the war armed with a collection of old and worn out weapons against the mighty Pakistan army, supposedly one of the best armed forces of the time.
